Partner-Nation Participants Visit USS New York Members of partner navies visited USS New York (LPD 21) Aug. 7, 8 and 9, on Naval Station Mayport while participating in PANAMAX 2014, an exercise aimed at developing strong working relationships between multinational forces to ensure the defense of the Panama Canal. Navy F/A-18s Strike ISIL Targets Two U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets assigned to Carrier Air Wing 8 embarked on USS George H. W. Bush (CVN 77) struck Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant targets near Erbil, Iraq, Aug. 8. Vella Gulf Conducts Exercise with Turkish Navy The Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Vella Gulf (CG 72) conducted a division tactics exercise with the Turkish navy fast attack craft TCG Tuzla (P 1200) in the Black Sea, Aug. 8.
